What is AI UGC? A plain guide for TikTok Shop

Updated

In short

AI UGC is user-generated-style content made with AI: a video or image that looks like a regular person filmed it on a phone, but the person, the room and the movement are generated. On TikTok Shop it means a product video made from a product photo, without filming, samples or a creator.

First, what UGC means

UGC is user-generated content: videos and photos made by regular people rather than a brand's studio. On TikTok Shop the familiar formats are the mirror-selfie try-on, the product held up to the camera, the shoe shot from above, and the photo carousel. They read as a post from a person, not as an ad.

What makes it AI UGC

AI UGC keeps the formats and generates the footage. An AI model creates the person, the room and the motion from a reference, usually a product photo plus a description of the shot. Tools differ in how much of that you do yourself:

How an AI UGC video is made

  1. 01

    The product photo

A listing photo, flat lay or on-model shot. Colour, print and cut are read off it, so a clear photo matters more than anything else.

  2. 02

    The creator

An AI person who wears the product. Saved once, the same face appears in every video an account posts.

  3. 03

    The first frame

The creator in the product, in a room. This is the cheapest place to catch a mistake, before any video is rendered.

  4. 04

    The motion

The first frame is animated into a short vertical video, 8 seconds by default on FlowFits.

  5. 05

    The check

The finished video is compared with the product photo so the colour, print, logo text and cut match what you sell.

The full walk-through, with what to look for at each step, is in how to make AI UGC videos for TikTok Shop.

What AI UGC is good for

What it is not good for

For those, a real creator is the better call. AI UGC vs hiring UGC creators compares the two honestly.

The rules to follow

TikTok requires creators to label AI-generated content that contains realistic images, audio and video, and says the label does not affect distribution as long as the video follows its Community Guidelines. Show the product exactly as it is sold, and never let a generated person claim an experience they did not have.

Questions

Is AI UGC the same as an AI avatar video?

Not quite. An avatar video is usually a talking head reading a script. AI UGC copies the look of a regular post: a mirror selfie, a product in hand, a carousel.

Do I need to label AI UGC on TikTok?

TikTok requires creators to label AI-generated content that contains realistic images, audio and video. It offers an AI-generated content setting when you post, and says turning it on does not affect distribution as long as the video follows its Community Guidelines.

Can I make AI UGC without the product in hand?

Yes, from a product photo. The video can only be as accurate as the photo, so use a clear listing photo that shows the whole product in its true colour.

Do I need to write prompts?

In a general AI video app, yes. In FlowFits, no: there is no prompt box, and the prompt is built from tested styles.
