Answer

Does TikTok label AI-generated videos?

Updated

In short

Yes, in two ways: creators switch on an AI-generated content setting when they post, and TikTok can add an "AI-generated" label itself when it identifies AI content, for example from Content Credentials metadata in the file. TikTok's help page says turning the setting on won't affect a video's distribution as long as the video doesn't violate its Community Guidelines.

The toggle is not the only way to disclose. TikTok's help page also accepts text on the post, a hashtag sticker or context in the description, and the Community Guidelines accept a clear caption, sticker or watermark. For an account that posts Shop videos daily, the built-in setting is the tidy option: the label lands in the same corner of every post and nobody has to remember a hashtag.

Does the AI label hurt reach?

TikTok answers this on its own help page: switching on the AI-generated content setting won't affect distribution, provided the video follows the Community Guidelines. TikTok Shop's US AI policy says the same thing for product content: a post is not demoted or restricted just because the setting is on, and a post TikTok labeled automatically is not penalized for the label alone.

Read that carefully. It is a statement that the label is not a ranking penalty, not a promise that a labeled video gets the views an unlabeled one would, and we know of no public data measuring the difference either way. Views come from the hook, the product and the account. The real risk runs the other way: the Community Guidelines say unlabeled realistic AI content may be removed, restricted or labeled by TikTok's team, and TikTok Shop counts failing to disclose significant AI use as a false-disclosure violation.

When the label is required, and when it is not

The Community Guidelines require a label on AI-generated or significantly edited content that shows realistic-looking people or scenes. They list cases that need no disclosure: small edits such as color correction, reframing or cropping, artistic styles such as anime, and generic text-to-speech that is not a recognizable person's voice. Over-labeling is a problem too: TikTok's help page says putting the creator label on unaltered content is a Terms of Service violation that can get the post removed.

Will TikTok auto-label a video made with FlowFits?

Do not plan around it. The auto label depends on metadata TikTok can read, and its help page names Content Credentials from the C2PA. Whether a file carries that metadata depends on every tool it passed through, and editing or re-exporting a file can change what it carries. The dependable route is the one TikTok asks for anyway: switch the setting on yourself for every AI video you post. If an auto label does appear, TikTok says it stays.

How to switch the setting on

In the TikTok app, for a video: tap Add post, record or upload, tap Next, open More options and turn on AI-generated content. For a photo post the switch is under Post settings. If you schedule posts through another tool, confirm it passes the AI setting through to TikTok; if it does not, put the disclosure in the caption or on screen, where the Add Text workflow in FlowFits can place a line you control. Faceless accounts need the label just as much as accounts with an AI face; see faceless TikTok accounts.

Questions

Does the AI-generated label hurt reach on TikTok?

TikTok's help page says turning on the AI-generated content setting won't affect distribution as long as the video follows the Community Guidelines. No public data we know of shows labeled videos getting fewer views, while realistic AI left unlabeled can be removed or restricted.

Can I remove an AI-generated label from my TikTok video?

Not if TikTok applied it: its help page says an auto label cannot be removed. The creator label is a setting you choose as you post, and for realistic AI content TikTok requires you to choose it.

Does TikTok detect AI videos automatically?

Sometimes. TikTok says it may label content made with its own AI effects, or uploads carrying C2PA Content Credentials. It does not catch everything, and both TikTok and TikTok Shop say to disclose yourself when no auto label appears.

Is a hashtag like #aigenerated enough to label AI content?

TikTok's Community Guidelines accept a clear caption, sticker or watermark, and its help page mentions text, a hashtag sticker or context in the description. The built-in setting is the most consistent choice because the label sits in the same place on every post.

Do I need the label if AI only changed the background?

TikTok's guidelines ask for disclosure when a background, object or person is added or removed in a misleading way, and TikTok Shop lists background changes as a permitted edit when product details are untouched. If the person on screen is AI, label the video regardless.
